About Our Brigade

Hazelbrook Rural Fire Brigade is part of the central sector of the Blue Mountains Rural Fire Service, being responsible for approximately 100 square kilometers of mostly National Park to the north and south of the Hazelbrook village.

The urban interface, where bushland, scrub, and grasslands adjoin residential areas is about 26 kilometers, with some 1,200 of Hazelbrook’s 2,200 properties in the interface.

Brigade membership fluctuates between 50 to 80 members and currently, there are around 50 active firefighters. The Brigade is primarily set up for bushfire protection however, as Hazelbrook is an urban fringe area and within a national park, we are also trained for cooperative activities with all other emergency services. For example, bush search and rescue, village fire fighting, motor vehicle accidents, storm damage, and many other emergencies.

The Brigade is located on the southern side of the Great Western Highway on Terrace Falls Road. The Brigade operates one Category 1 tanker, one Category 7 tanker, and a personnel carrier. During 2023, the station is now home to the Category 13, Blue Mountains Bulk water tanker.

The Brigade meets twice a week for training and equipment maintenance – Wednesday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 p.m.

We also hold a monthly general meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. so that the executive and membership can carry out the administrative business of the brigade.
